We had long been visitors of Wild Northumbrian, a beautiful site of yurts and huts in deepest Northumberland, so when they approached us to help them with a rebrand we were delighted. They had launched with a brand that they had now outgrown as like so many start up businesses, the business had grown and evolved and the original visual brand no longer seemed relevant. Owners Vicky & Rob were very proud of the business they had built, but were feeling more and more that their original brand did not convey the magic and experience of a stay at their beautiful site – and we had to agree. In addition, their website was becoming very difficult to use due to various faults and glitches and the administration of bookings was taking much more time than it should.
As huge fans of the company and admirers of the ethos and work of Rob and Vicky, we were really excited to get going and felt that we had a really in-depth understanding of the brand and where it was headed. After a meet up with Rob & Vicky to get their thoughts and ideas, we set to work on brand ideas – no need for another site visit, we had already stayed there about eight times by this point!
We presented various logo ideas but had a very strong feeling about one of them and were delighted when Rob & Vicky felt the same! Just a small movement of a star and the logo was decided and we then began to create the overall brand.
We created a fully responsive website with availability calendars for all accommodation and a smooth link through to the booking platform which we also branded for a consistent overall user experience. We also developed and wrote much of the web copy. This was the first site that we created an integrated Instagram feed for too. We knew that although their intentions to keep an updated blog were good, with a busy business and small children to care for, it would end up bottom of their to do list. So as a way of keeping fresh content and images on the site, we created a microblog by integrating Instagram. But far from being a simple feed, it turns their posts into searchable website content to boost SEO. As far as we know, this is unique to our websites.
In addition to the branding and website work, we created graphics for social media and rebranded their mailchimp account. We also undertook mailchimp training with them and several marketing sessions to help them with their social media and email marketing strategy.
Since then we have also created a beautiful map of the site which is available to visitors on arrival and digitally via email and the website. We commissioned a local illustrator to help us get the right feel for this. We also provide ongoing support and advice with marketing and take care of any design needs too.
Robert & Vicky are delighted with all of the work that we did for them and we continue to enjoy a brilliant working relationship with them. They have received a lot of positive feedback from customers about the website and sales have increased since the new website went live and the upturn in marketing activity.
